The Life of Dennis

1952 (incomplete)

I was born on Tuesday, November 4th 1952.

This is a famous day in history, not because of my birth of course, but because this is the same day Dwight Eisenhower was elected President of the United States for the first of two terms.

My mother, being the staunch Republican and conservative that she is, voted for Eisenhower. And then she went into labor.

Could I have somehow known that she had cast her vote for Ike and decided then and there that I couldn't stay for one more minute in a Republican womb? We'll never know for sure, but what we do know is that for one reason or another, I was coming out. Of course, If I was repulsed at the idea of staying in a Republican womb, I certainly had no trouble consuming Republican breast milk for several months afterwards. I did have my priorities.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I haven't been born yet. I'm just letting her know I'm getting ready to leave those comfortable confines for the outside world.

My mother went to Leaksville Hospital to have me delivered. I was brought into this world by Dr Reeser, the same doctor that would be my family doctor until I married and moved to Greensboro.

I was born on 11/04 at 11:04pm. Now it that strange or what? I've often wondered if there was something about the alignment of the stars or something if it was just a minor coincidence.

From this point on, everything is just a blur. Or more accurately, just a blank. I will have to continue this story at least a couple of years later. There is probably not much to tell of those first two years though. Just a lot eating, sleeping and pooping.

More to come..............
